Building Green

Green building includes a combination of building products and fixtures that are considered to be either “low impact”, providing a single green benefit, such as low flush toilets, to “high impact” green products with multiple benefits such as LOGIX Insulated Concrete Forms.

What makes LOGIX a "high impact" green product?

  • LOGIX optimizes energy performance in the home. The combination of continuous foam insulation and the thermal mass properties of insulated concrete provide a high thermal resistance wall system that reduces the peak heating and cooling loads on the building. This thermal envelope reduces air leakage and energy use.
  • LOGIX homes are airtight structures. This makes airflow and ventilation easier to control and monitor. The end result is a healthier, comfortable environment for occupants, and a reduction in HVAC capacity.
  • LOGIX walls are mold resistant. With the protected layer of LOGIX ICF foam panels, a LOGIX wall system will not promote the growth of mold or mildew.
  • LOGIX walls are durable. They are stronger than conventional wood-framed constructed walls and are able to withstand the damaging effects of strong winds.
  • LOGIX uses recycled materials. LOGIX foam panels are made from up to 10% recycled EPS. LOGIX webs are made of 100% recycled polypropylene.
  • LOGIX produces minimal on-site waste. Any on-site waste can be fully recycled.
  • LOGIX has multiple manufacturing facilities. LOGIX has manufacturing facilities throughout North America and Europe. This reduces the need for the transportation/delivery of manufactured product to distant jobsite destinations. The concrete is obtained through local suppliers.

LEED and the Canada Green Building Council

Recently various organizations have been created to quantify and certify the 'green' qualities of buildings. Of these organizations the Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is probably the most reputable. LEED promotes an entire building approach to environmental design but the LEED 69 point checklist is weighted most heavily towards energy efficiency, which is logical considering the fact that the majority of a buildings 'environmental footprint' stems from heating and cooling. Here LOGIX ICF can single handedly contribute up to 21 points towards the overall score of 26 which is the minimum score required to gain certification. This figure is very impressive considering the fact that the LEED checklist judges the environmental impact of an entire building and looks at many aspects of a building's 'environmental footprint' including; sustainable site selection, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality. By choosing LOGIX ICF your building will receive a huge boost towards LEED certification.*
